Tips and Tricks for Installing a Dash Camera

Thanks to the dash camera, the world has become privy to some of the coolest and shocking videos ever taken on the road. But apart from being one of the best sources of viral videos, dash cameras have a practical purpose, too. It can serve as your "witness" when you're involved in a vehicular accident and even help you report reckless drivers to make the road much safer for pedestrians and other road users.

If you're thinking of installing a new electronic device in your car, a dash camera will certainly make a perfect addition to your existing car accessories.

Mounting and Installation Tips
Unlike other car accessories, dash cameras are relatively easier to install. This is one of the things that make it a great buy. If you've bought one and you have decided to take a DIY approach to the installation process, here are some tips you should consider.

1. Start by choosing the best location for your dash cam
Most dash cams can be attached to the windscreen via a suction cup. But before you go and attach it to the windscreen, you should think about where the most optimum location to mount your camera is. For starters, it should go somewhere where it won't block your view when driving. At the same time, it should also have a clear view of the road ahead.

For this reason most experts recommend the spot behind the rear view mirror. This, according to them, is the best mounting position as it gives the camera a great view of everything without obstructing your own view.

2. Attach the camera to the power source
After choosing the best mounting position for the car dash camera, the next step is to run its wire around the body of your vehicle. To make the installation look cleaner and more organised, you should hide the wire under the headliner or under the rubber surrounding the edge of the car window.

Then, pull the wire down until it hits the floor of the car and run it under the carpet in the foot well. Pull it up to the cigarette lighter. Finish by plugging it into the cigarette lighter or power socket.

3. You can hardwire it, too
If the camera you've bought is designed to be hardwired to your car's electrics permanently, we suggest that you let a professional do the job. Permanent wiring is often more challenging. To ensure proper installation, you should consider hiring a professional installer.
